Family safe after tornado misses their apartment building

ANDOVER, Kan — A tornado ripped through Andover Kansas Friday night time leaving driving a route of destruction. When no main accidents were documented, authorities say far more than 1,000 buildings were wrecked or weakened.

The Rylant household witnessed the tornado firsthand as they were being in their 3rd story condominium developing when the twister ripped through their community. Curtis Rylant described experienced that twister shifted paths, he would not know if his relatives would be Alright.

“We observed it arrive down and go back again up and the second time it arrived down it stayed down, we noticed debris and it arrived back again up,” Curtis mentioned.

Ellie Rylant was with her loved ones when the tornado hit, she’s a nurse and reported as soon as she heard the sirens she rushed to her local YMCA to give support.

“We walked out of our apartment and the sky was nonetheless truly creepy,” Ellie mentioned. “ I just assumed, oh my gosh, this is Friday evening, there’s likely to be so several folks at the YMCA, Youngsters get dropped off, they enjoy basketball, and I just could not hardly feel of not coming above to consider to come across out if any person necessary support. The Andover YMCA was seriously destroyed by the tornado, but no 1 was hurt. Crew continue to work on cleaning up the twister’s path of destruction and at this time no complete injury prices have been claimed.

The Rylant apartment was not damaged, but their car was totaled. However, they are grateful their local community is now harmless, and are doing work with their neighbors to try out and rebuilt.
